Local government contribution for construction of armory.
Section
1.
That
§
33-11-6
be amended to read as follows:
33-11-6.
The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs shall also have the power to receive
from counties,
school districts,
municipalities, or other sources, donations of land or contributions
of money, buildings, or other property, to aid in providing or erecting armories and other facilities
throughout the state for the use of the national guard and which shall be held as other property for
the use of the state.

That

33-11-7
be amended to read as follows:
33-11-7.
Counties
, school districts,
or municipalities are hereby authorized to make
contributions of land, money, buildings, or other property for the purposes of this chapter
, and
.
Also,
each first or second class municipality of the state is hereby authorized and empowered to
levy a tax upon all property therein subject to taxation to raise the necessary money for such
armory building or other facility and site; provided that no money
raised by such tax
shall be
donated or tax levied until the same is authorized by a vote of a majority of the electors in such
municipality at an election called for that purpose.
Any contribution of money from a county,
school district, or municipality for the construction of an armory shall be matched with a sum
appropriated from the state treasury that is not greater than fifty percent of the total local effort
required by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs or the United States Department of
Defense.
