Rural fire protection districts may contract with
other nonprofit corporations.
Section
1.
That
§
34-31A-18
be amended to read as follows:
34-31A-18.
Any rural fire protection district may
elect to
enter into a contract with another
rural fire protection district to consolidate or cooperate for mutual fire protection and prevention
purposes, or may enter into a contract with any federal, state, or local government agency for fire
protection service or fire protection cooperation upon terms suitable to all concerned
, and power
.
Power
to make such contracts is hereby conferred upon such state or local government agency in
addition to such powers as are otherwise provided by law.
Any rural fire protection district may
enter into a contract with any nonprofit corporation, organized under the laws of this state and
whose sole purpose is fire protection, for fire protection service or fire protection cooperation upon
terms suitable to all concerned. Any contract between a rural fire protection district and a nonprofit
corporation that was entered into prior to the effective date of this Act, and which now complies
with the provisions of this section is hereby declared to be valid and legal.
