A briefing concerning the Streamlined Sales Tax Project will be given at this time. An overview will be given of the proposed legislation and issues concerning simplification and uniformity of the sales and use tax system.

Senate Bill 166 was enacted during the 2001 Legislative Session authorizing a Streamlined Sales Tax Project Task Force. The task force was comprised of eight legislators and seven individuals representing industry, commerce, and municipalities. The task force introduced the following bills:

HB 1001 An act to ratify the Uniform Sales and Use Tax Administration Act and to implement the uniform and simplified features proposed by the Streamlined Sales Tax Project.

HB 1002 An act to impose a gross receipts tax on certain visitor-related businesses.

HB 1003 An act to authorize a municipal gross receipts tax on certain lodging, alcoholic beverages, prepared food, and admissions.
