Joan Adam, Interim Secretary, introduced departmental staff and provided an overview of the public health emphasis of the Department of Health.
Dr. Josh Clayton, State Epidemiologist, provided an overview of public health statistics on mortality.
Lynne Valenti, Deputy Secretary, provided an overview of the South Dakota Medical Cannabis Program.
Beth Dokken, Division Director with the Department of Health, shared data regarding suicide and prevention strategies. She provided an overview of the Test4Hope program, and shared the strategic plan for Opioid Abuse in the state.
Melissa DeNoon, Director of the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, reviewed program goals, funding, and integration.
Joan Adam, Interim Secretary, shared a report on the need for additional Nursing Facility Beds and reviewed Department of Health Legislation for the 2022 year.
At the conclusion of the presentation questions of committee members were addressed.
Representative Deutsch, Vice Chair, passed the gavel to Representative Jensen, Chair.
HB 1027 : place certain substances on the controlled substances schedule and to declare an emergency.
