The meeting was called to order by Senator Cooper Garnos and Representative Gordon Pederson,
Committee Chairs.
Senate and House Transportation Committee members and staff were introduced.
Judy Payne, Secretary of the Department of Transportation introduced department staff present. She
gave a brief overview of the Department of Transportation, presenting a power point presentation
based on a document entitled 2007 Legislative Briefing, South Dakota Department of Transportation
(handout #1). She then answered questions from members of the committees.
Tom Dravland, Secretary of the Department of Public Safety introduced department staff present.
He presented a brief overview of the Department of Public Safety, referring to a document entitled
2007 Legislative Overview, Department of Public Safety (handout #2).
Col. Dan Mosteller, Director of the Division of Enforcement within the Department of Public Safety
gave a brief overview of the Highway Patrol.
Tom Dravland and Dan Mosteller then answered questions from the members of the committees.
Cindy Gerber, Division of Driver Licensing within the Department of Public Safety answered
questions from the committee concerning the division.
Debra Hillmer, Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles within the Department of Revenue and
Regulation gave a brief overview of the Division of Motor Vehicles.
