A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Recognizing Jason Smidt for his outstanding achievements in the sport of basketball.

     WHEREAS,  Jason Smidt, Brookings native, has demonstrated hard work, tenacity, and dedication to the sport of basketball as scoring leader and three-point shooting guard for Coach Lynn Frederick at Brookings High School; and

     WHEREAS,  Jason Smidt has been a South Dakota-Iowa Athletic Conference (SDIC) four-year conference leader and role model for Coach Tom Cameron and students at Dakota State University; and

     WHEREAS,  Jason Smidt received SDIC Player of the Week honors for Dakota State University for scoring sixty-nine points in two games, including nine out of ten three-pointers. Jason Smidt also received National Association of Intercollegiate (NAIA)-Division II Player of the Week honors for the entire country:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Seventy-fifth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that Jason Smidt be commended for his outstanding efforts and leadership abilities as well as for being a positive role model, which not only reflects highly on himself, but also on Brookings High School, the city of Brookings, Dakota State University, the city of Madison, and the State of South Dakota.
