         A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Honoring Dora Brugier of Eagle Butte for her lifelong civic contributions as a Lakota storyteller, deacon, grandmother, aunt, mother, and community leader.

     WHEREAS,  Dora Brugier, a community leader and member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, will turn ninety years old on April 15, 2008, and deserves recognition and praise for her wonderful storytelling, kindness, and deep concern for people in need; and

     WHEREAS,  Dora Brugier has served as a deacon of St. John's Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte, from where she continues to share blessings and prayers with all persons in need in any way she can; and

     WHEREAS,  Dora Brugier is a fluent Lakota speaker who overcame poverty and adversity and has always cheerfully shared her deep knowledge of Lakota lifeways and Lakota language with storytelling and teaching of positive Lakota virtues to children and all others willing to listen:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Eighty-Third Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature honors Dora Brugier for her loving and kind contributions to all whose lives she has touched.
