A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Celebrating the Madison High School football team for winning the Class 11A state championship.
WHEREAS, the Madison High School football team claimed the 2021 South Dakota Class 11A high school state championship, making it the Bulldogs' fourth 11A state title in the last seven years. Madison, led by head coach Max Hodgen, had a perfect season with a 12-0 record. The Bulldogs dominated the state championship game with a 31-0 win over Milbank; and
WHEREAS, Madison was led by Trey Smith, who was named the game’s outstanding back and the Joe Robbie MVP. He rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 13 tackles on defense, including two tackles for a loss and a sack. He kicked a 25-yard field goal and four extra points, totaling 19 of the team’s 31 points. Nate Ricke, Madison's senior quarterback, also had an impressive performance, going 12 for 20 with 130 passing yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-Seventh Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Madison High School football team be commended for winning the Class 11A state championship and for displaying exemplary teamwork, leadership, and commitment.
