A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring the work of Ethleen Iron Cloud Two Dogs.

WHEREAS, Ethleen Iron Cloud Two Dogs is an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe; and

WHEREAS, after pursuing higher education, Ethleen Iron Cloud Two Dogs began to focus on the mental health needs of indigenous youth, and in collaboration with tribal and community leaders, developed and implemented healing opportunities for those who were suffering as a result of unresolved trauma and other emotional issues; and

WHEREAS, Ethleen Iron Cloud Two Dogs long ago recognized that in order to address the mental health needs of indigenous youth, it would be necessary to return to traditional healing techniques that respect native traditions and promote mental health in a holistic way; and

WHEREAS, Ethleen Iron Cloud Two Dogs has, over the years, selflessly shared her incorporation of spiritual teaching as a way to overcome historical trauma and shame with audiences, including the United States Congress:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-Seventh Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the work of Ethleen Iron Cloud Two Dogs is of the utmost importance in confronting the generational impact of unresolved trauma among indigenous youth and in addressing mental health issues in ways that recognize and promote the cultural perspective on indigenous healing.
