An Act to direct the Department of Education to use certain fall enrollments when calculating state aid for school districts that declined in enrollment between 2020 and 2021.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of South Dakota:
Section 1. That chapter 13-13 be amended with a NEW SECTION:
Except as otherwise provided in this section, the secretary of education shall calculate the amount of state aid to which a school district is entitled for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2022, and ending June 30, 2023, by determining the district's fall enrollment, as set forth in subdivision 13-13-10.1(2).
If a school district's fall enrollment, as determined on the last Friday of September, 2021, is less than the district's fall enrollment, as determined on the last Friday of September, 2020, the secretary shall calculate the amount of state aid to which the district is entitled by using the higher of the two enrollments.
