        A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Thanking and commending Sanford Health, the University of South Dakota, and the Matson Halverson Christiansen Hamilton Foundation for their tireless efforts to promote rural economic development in South Dakota by assisting rural South Dakota's nontraditional students as they complete their healthcare degrees through the Prairie Futures initiative.

    WHEREAS, the Prairie Futures initiative assists nontraditional students in South Dakota by providing numerous services including scholarships, tutoring, transportation, daycare, mentoring, coaching, computers, and lab equipment; and

    WHEREAS, each job created in the Sanford Chamberlain hospital creates another 0.44 jobs in other businesses and industries in Brule County; and

    WHEREAS, the direct impact of one hundred sixty-eight employees results in an indirect and induced impact of seventy-four additional jobs in Brule County; and

    WHEREAS, for each dollar of income generated by a hospital employee, another thirty-five cents

is generated in other businesses and industries in Brule County:

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Eighty-seventh Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the South Dakota Legislature thanks and commends Sanford Health, the University of South Dakota, and the Matson Halverson Christiansen Hamilton Foundation for their tireless efforts to promote rural economic development in South Dakota by assisting rural South Dakota's nontraditional students as they complete their healthcare degrees through the Prairie Futures initiative.
