A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring and commending Korkow Rodeos and their bucking horse, Onion Ring, for their continued excellence and longstanding success in rodeos across the United States.

WHEREAS, Korkow Rodeos was founded in 1947 by Erv Korkow, who passed the company down throughout the generations, and has raised esteemed bucking horses such as Sheep Herder, Queenie, Confused Sheep, Bad News, Friday, Sundown, Little Vegas, Vidilia, and the 2005 PRCA saddle bronc horse of the year, Slippery, all of which have been selected to compete at the National Finals Rodeo. O22 Onion Ring joins this long list of outstanding animal athletes; and

WHEREAS, the staff at Korkow Rodeos knew from the day that Onion Ring was born that they had a special horse; and

WHEREAS, Korkow Rodeos has continuously shown in rigorous competition that Onion Ring is one of the premier bucking horses in the nation. Onion Ring has had massive successes in the national circuit, such as his ride in Rodeo Houston, in which he netted his rider one of the richest awards in rodeo history with a record 92-point ride; and

WHEREAS, Onion Ring has been awarded four Stock of the Year awards from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and has also won three rounds at the National Finals Rodeo; and

WHEREAS, Onion Ring is not only known for his fierce style while in the arena, but also for his manageable and friendly temperament with everyone who greets him; and

WHEREAS, Korkow rodeos and their bucking horse, Onion Ring, have a longstanding and historic pattern of success which has brought dozens of awards and honors to the State of South Dakota:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-Sixth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature honors and commends Korkow Rodeos and O22 Onion Ring for their consistent excellence in the arena and wishes them continued success.
