A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, To honor and commend the South Dakota high school honoree for the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, Jordan Philips.

WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards was created in 1995 to honor middle school and high school students for outstanding service in their local, state, and national level communities; and

WHEREAS, this award is given to only two students in each state who have created a greater impact by utilizing their time and resources for the betterment of their communities; and

WHEREAS, sixteen-year-old Jordan Philips, of Aberdeen, South Dakota, raised more than $110,000 in support of women with breast cancer by selling fabric coffee-cup sleeves, eventually stocking 250,000 of her coffee-cup sleeves in more than a thousand stores across the country; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Philips has made an impact not only in the great state of South Dakota, but in the surrounding communities as well. Her support, ambition, and talents acknowledge the bright future of our young generation:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-Sixth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature honors and commends Jordan Philips for her astounding achievement in being named the high school South Dakota honoree for the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.
