HOUSE COMMEMORATION NO. 1020

A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Commending and honoring Duane Alm, a member of the
Aberdeen School District Board of Education, on his selection as the Associated School Boards
of South Dakota Outstanding School Board Member of South Dakota for 2011.
WHEREAS, Duane Alm has served his community and the students of the Aberdeen School
District for more than forty years in education as a teacher and administrator, and ten years as a
member of the Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, Duane Alm has worked tirelessly as an advocate on behalf of public education at
the state and national level; and
WHEREAS, Duane Alm led the charge in Aberdeen to become one of the first districts in the
state to develop a framework of goals, mission, and vision to drive district progress; and
WHEREAS, Duane Alm is a strong advocate of the importance of policy, a good relationship
between the superintendent and school board, data-driven decision making and staff professional
development; and
WHEREAS, Duane Alm is dedicated to providing high quality services, direction and assistance
to school districts, speaking loudly for the achievement, welfare, and safety of all South Dakota's
children:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Eighty-seventh Legislature of the
State of South Dakota, that during 2012, Duane Alm of Aberdeen, South Dakota, is hereby an
official representative of the state and shall continue his efforts to seek improvement of educational
opportunities for the elementary and secondary students of the state.
