FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to
provide for tourism regions in the state, to provide for
the distribution of tourism promotion funds to those regions, and to provide an additional
appropriation for tourism promotion.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA:
Section
1.
That chapter
1-42
be amended by adding thereto a NEW SECTION to read as
follows:
For the purposes of distributing some of the tourism promotion fund established by
§
1-42-
31, the state is divided into the following five tourism regions:
(1) The glacial lakes and prairies region which includes the counties of Beadle,
Brookings, Codington, Deuel, Hamlin, Hand, Jerauld, Kingsbury, Lake, Miner,
Moody, and Sanborn;
(2) The southeast region which includes the counties of Bon Homme, Clay, Davison,
Hanson, Hutchinson, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, Turner, Union, and Yankton;
(3) The northern route to the Black Hills region, which promotes a new tourism route
extending from eastern metro markets to the Black Hills across the northern tier of
South Dakota and includes the counties of Brown, Campbell, Clark, Corson, Day,
Dewey, Edmunds, Faulk, Grant, Harding, Marshall, McPherson, Perkins, Potter,
Roberts, Spink, and Walworth;
(4) The great lakes region which includes the counties of Aurora, Brule, Buffalo, Charles
Mix, Douglas, Gregory, Hughes, Hyde, Lyman, Stanley, Sully, and Tripp; and
(5) The Black Hills, Badlands, and lakes region which includes the counties of Bennett,
Butte, Custer, Fall River, Haakon, Jackson, Jones, Lawrence, Meade, Mellette,
Pennington, Shannon, Todd, and Ziebach.

2.
That chapter

be amended by adding thereto a NEW SECTION to read as
follows:
Any monies granted from the tourism promotion fund to tourism associations in the state
shall be equally proportioned among the five tourism regions as provided in section 1 of this
Act.
Section
3.
There is hereby appropriated from the
general
fund the sum of fifty-five thousand
dollars ($
55,000
), or so much thereof as may be necessary, to the tourism promotion fund to
increase the amount of money otherwise available to be granted to tourism associations pursuant
to section 2 of this Act.
