A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION,  Recognizing the Family and Consumer Sciences     Departments and their role in parenting and human development education.

     WHEREAS,  there is a long-standing and well-documented need in South Dakota regarding education for our youth in the area of parenting and strong, healthy, family relationships; and


     WHEREAS,  in South Dakota schools there are now one hundred and three vocationally approved Family and Consumer Science Departments with one hundred and twenty-four vocationally certified teachers; and

     WHEREAS,  the Family and Consumer Sciences Departments have acknowledged their role in parenting and human development education and now have thirty-five schools with seven hundred and seventy-eight students enrolled in a human development course and fifty-three schools offering parenting courses with nine hundred and nine students enrolled and twenty-five schools offering family relations courses with three hundred and fifty-seven students enrolled; and

     WHEREAS,  additionally there are twenty-one Family and Consumer Science Departments currently involved in the statewide Child Development Association Certification/Articulation Project with those schools located in Belle Fourche, Bennett County, Bison, Brookings, Elkton, Emery, Faith, Flandreau Public, Lake Andes, Lake Central-Madison, Sturgis, Mitchell, Parkston, Rapid City Central, Rapid City Stevens, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Sioux Falls Washington, Spearfish, Todd County, and Wall; and

     WHEREAS,  the Governor of the State of South Dakota has endorsed parenting courses and development of strong, healthy, family relationships:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,  by the Senate of the Seventy-fifth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the efforts of the Family and Consumer Science Departments of South Dakota's schools to teach our youth the skills of positive parenting and human development be endorsed and applauded by this body with a pledge for continuing support; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,  that the Legislature recognizes and commends those parents who are now and have always strived to use good parenting skills.

A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Honoring the Stickney 1999-2000 cheerleaders and     their coach.

     WHEREAS,  the 1999-2000 Stickney cheerleaders won the title of the Class B Cheerleading Large-Squad Championship; and

     WHEREAS,  Coach Michelle Koch provided excellent leadership and guidance to the cheerleading squad, and devoted fans provided greatly appreciated support; and

     WHEREAS,  the cheerleading squad competed with grace, dedication, and intensity to the extent that they achieved their goal and are rightly celebrated for attaining the championship:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Seventy-fifth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Stickney cheerleading squad be recognized for their excellence and achievement during the 1999-2000 school year.

A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Honoring the Stickney-Mount Vernon Knights 1999-     2000 football team and their coaches.

     WHEREAS,  the 1999-2000 Stickney-Mount Vernon football team are the Class 9-AA Football victors; and

     WHEREAS,  coaches Myron Steffens and Craig Wixon provided superior leadership and guidance to the football team, and loyal fans provided greatly appreciated support; and

     WHEREAS,  the football team competed with dedication, perseverance, and intensity to the degree that they achieved their goal and became the 1999-2000 Class 9-AA Football Champions:

A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Recognizing the Menno Pioneer Power Show.

     WHEREAS,  the Menno Pioneer Power Show to be held September 23-24, 2000, one quarter mile north of Menno, South Dakota, features an Avery wooden steam thresher, a gas engine-

powered wood saw, an eight-bottom antique John Deere plow pulled by a steam engine, a steam driven saw mill, a 47,000 pound Worthington engine and antique tractors and gas engines of all kinds, International Harvester tractors, equipment, and trucks, Walz District country school houses, plus many other historical buildings; and

     WHEREAS,  there is an international toy show with arts and crafts at the Menno Pioneer Acres, a flea market, Legion bingo, kiddie rides, and an antique car, tractor, and truck parade both days; and

     WHEREAS,  there will be live entertainment on Saturday and the Tyndall Accordion Club on Sunday:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Seventy-fifth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Menno Pioneer Power Show Committee, the Menno Community Club, and the entire Menno community be congratulated on a job well done and that they be wished continued success in future power shows.
