     The Senate convened at 2:00 p.m., pursuant to adjournment, the President presiding.

     The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor James Sumner, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Senate page Jeffrey Nath.

     Roll Call: All members present except Sen. Whiting who was excused.

APPROVAL OF THE JOURNAL


MADAM PRESIDENT:

     The Committee on Legislative Procedure respectfully reports that the Secretary of the Senate has had under consideration the Senate Journal of the second day.

     All errors, typographical or otherwise, are duly marked in the temporary journal for correction.

     And we hereby move the adoption of the report.

MOTIONS AND RESOLUTIONS


     Sen. Rounds moved that a committee of three on the part of the Senate be appointed to meet with a like committee on the part of the House to make arrangements for a Joint Session to hear a report by the Governor, the Honorable William J. Janklow, concerning the topics of juvenile corrections and the tobacco settlement money.

    Which motion prevailed and the President appointed as such committee Sens. Rounds, Everist, and Olson.


CONSIDERATION OF REPORTS OF JOINT-SELECT COMMITTEES


     Sen. Rounds moved that the report of the Joint-Select Committee relative to fixing compensation for the Seventy-fifth Legislative Session employees as found on page 28 of the Senate Journal be adopted.

     The question being on Sen. Rounds' motion that the report of the Joint-Select Committee relative to fixing compensation for the Seventy-fifth Legislative Session employees be adopted.

     And the roll being called:

     Sen. Rounds moved that the report of the Joint-Select Committee relative to the distribution of legislative documents as found on page 29 of the Senate Journal be adopted.

COMMEMORATIONS


     SC 4   Introduced by:  Senators Kloucek, Dennert, Dunn (Rebecca), Flowers, Hutmacher, Lange, Moore, Staggers, Symens, and Valandra and Representatives Putnam, Cerny, Chicoine, Davis, Engbrecht, Fischer-Clemens, Haley, Hanson, Hunt, Lockner, Lucas, Michels, Munson (Donald), Nachtigal, Sutton (Daniel), Weber, Wilson, and Wudel

A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Honoring and supporting Czech Days in Tabor,     South Dakota, on the occasion of its fifty-second anniversary.

     WHEREAS,  South Dakota's Czech immigrants have enriched our state's culture with their exceptional attainments in music, literature, and art, and are known for their love of agriculture, mechanical arts, and democracy which they strive to preserve and protect for future generations; and

     WHEREAS,  this year's Czech Days' Royalty are Queen Amie Manas, daughter of Marvin and Marie Manas of Lesterville; Prince Mark Povondra, son of Dennis and Sherry Povondra of Tabor; and Princess Cindy Syrovatka, daughter of Joe and Terri Syrovatka of Lesterville; and

     WHEREAS,  Czech Days offers a variety of exhibits, attractions, events, and entertainments including the Czech Heritage Museum, Blachnik Museum, St. Wenceslaus Church, programs for adults and children in Sokol Park, live Czech music in Beseda Hall, adult and youth parades, and two beer gardens:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Seventy-fifth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature congratulates all South Dakotans of Czech ancestry who host this outstanding ethnic festival and urges all South Dakotans of every ancestry to participate in the fifty-second annual Czech Days on June 16 and 17, 2000, in Tabor, South Dakota.
     Sen. Moore moved that the Senate do now adjourn, which motion prevailed, and at 2:20 p.m. the Senate adjourned.
