     On page 1 , line 14 of the printed bill , after " ballot " insert " for the general election. If there is a contested primary election for the office of sheriff, any candidate who fails to file the certification by the deadline specified in this section may not be declared the winner of the primary election or become the nominee for that political party. Excluding the votes cast for the candidate who fails to file the certification pursuant to this section, the candidate with the highest vote total shall be

declared the winner of the primary and the nominee for that political party. If there is not a contested primary election, and a candidate who has filed petitions pursuant to § 12-6-4 fails to file the certification within the time period specified in this section, the county central committee may appoint a replacement candidate pursuant to § 12-6-56. " .
