BE IT REMEMBERED, That on the twelfth day of January, A.D., one thousand nine
hundred ninety-nine, at the hour of twelve o'clock meridian, being the date and hour fixed by
the Constitution of the State of South Dakota for the convening of the Legislature, the Seventy
fourth regular session of the Senate of the State of South Dakota was called to order by
Lieutenant Governor Carole Hillard in the Senate Chamber in the Capitol, in the City of Pierre,
the seat of our government.
The following prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Roger Easland, Congregational
United Church of Christ , Pierre:
Gracious and All-powerful God, we thank You today for showing us the way to a better
world. You call us to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk each day humbly with You. As
we begin this 1999 Session, be our light, our guide, our personal mentor, and our hope.
Bless Governor Janklow with wisdom and health. Bless our colleagues with a hard-
working and cooperative spirit. Bless all servants of the State with clarity of purpose and the
peace of mind at a job well done.
Bless all the people of South Dakota with goodwill and a rich sense of the value of
community. Prosper our land and the hands who work it with good stewardship and fair prices.
