Our Father in heaven, we pause in this moment to acknowledge You as our sovereign God
-- the One who created and sustains us.
Bless these Your servants as they begin again to wrestle with the difficult and delicate
issues that face the people of our state. Remind us now and throughout this session of our state's
motto -- that under You, the people rule. Help them to know that You are concerned about what
is said and done here. Give them the sense of Your presence to give them courage and speak to
them to give them wisdom beyond their own. May they hear Your voice and seek Your
guidance so that when all is said and done they may have a clear conscience before You.
Bless their families and interests back home. You know them, their needs, their motives,
their hopes, and their fears. Bless each of us according to our deepest needs and use us to bring
honor to Your name. I ask these favors in the name of our risen lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
