AMENDMENT 1152A FOR THE INTRODUCED BILL

An Act to provide financial assistance for school sentinel training.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of South Dakota:

Section 1. That § 13-64-3 be AMENDED:

13-64-3. School sentinel training-Assistance with cost.

Any person who acts as a school sentinel, pursuant to § 13-64-1, shall first successfully complete In order to serve as a school sentinel, a person shall meet the education and training course as defined standards established by the Law Enforcement Officers Standards Commission pursuant to subdivision 23-3-35(16) in accordance with § 23-3-35.

The Department of Education shall provide to each school district one thousand five hundred dollars for every school district employee who, during the previous school year, completed sentinel training. The dollars may be used by a district to assist with the cost of the training and equipment purchases.

The department may not expend more than $45,000 annually for the purposes of this section. If more than thirty employees complete the training in any year, the department shall prorate the amount provided to each district.

Any records that identify or allow for the identification of individuals who have received sentinel training and any records that identify or allow for the identification of school districts that receive financial assistance in accordance with this section, are confidential and not public records under chapter 1-27.

Section 2. That § 13-64-5 be REPEALED.
