AMENDMENT 1076A FOR THE INTRODUCED BILL

An Act to require a designation on a driver license for autism spectrum disorder under certain circumstances.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of South Dakota:

Section 1. That a NEW SECTION be added:

32-12-17.16. Autism designation on license.

Upon the written request of the licensee, the department shall issue a driver license or identification card bearing a graphic or written designation for autism spectrum disorder that may impede communication with a law enforcement officer. Before this information may be included, the licensee shall submit a document clearly identifying this information to the department and the document shall be signed by the licensee and the licensee's physician. For the purposes of this section, autism spectrum disorder, means a complex neurodevelopmental medical disorder characterized by social impairment, communication difficulties, and restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior.
