The meeting was called to order by Senator Deb Soholt, Chair.
Senator Soholt proposed a summer study focused on mental health and safety in grades K-12, stating
it is a much bigger issue than the violence now in the headlines. She said a multi-faceted study would
foster a basic understanding of the many factors at play, explore benchmark practices for the same,
and perhaps identify meaningful changes that could be addressed by legislation. She said the final
language of the proposal will be developed prior to submitting it to the Executive Board.
