    On page 1, line 7 of the printed bill, after "." insert "If the school board adopts a resolution to refer the decision on the number of school days to the vote of the voters, the governing body shall submit the question to a vote of the voters in the manner prescribed in section 2 of this Act.

    Section 2. That the code be amended by adding a NEW SECTION to read:

    The governing body shall submit the question to the electors at the next annual school election or the next general election. Pending the election, the governing body may take no action with respect to the subject matter that would alter or preempt the effect of the board's decision. However, the governing body may expedite the date of the election by ordering, within ten days of the decision, a special election to be held on a Tuesday not less than thirty days from the date of the order of the governing body.

    Section 3. That the code be amended by adding a NEW SECTION to read:

    If a school district submits a question to the electors at the next general election pursuant to section 2 of this Act, the school business manager shall certify the ballot language to the county auditor by the second Tuesday in August of the year of the general election. However, the county auditor may extend the certification deadline for the school business manager, if the county auditor determines that the extension does not prevent absentee ballots from being available by the date to begin absentee voting.

    Section 4. That the code be amended by adding a NEW SECTION to read:

    If a school district submits a question to the electors at the next general election pursuant to this Act, the school district shall pay the additional election cost related to the school question. The cost shall be agreed upon by the county auditor and the school business manager.

    Section 5. That the code be amended by adding a NEW SECTION to read:

    The referendum submitted pursuant to this Act only becomes effective if approved by a majority of the votes cast for and against the referendum. If the referendum is approved, the referendum shall take effect at the first day of the next school year as set forth in the resolution.

    Section 6. That the code be amended by adding a NEW SECTION to read:

    If the referral of the school board's decision regarding the number of school days in a school week fails or passes, it may not be voted again upon by the governing board of the school district within one year from the date of the election thereon.

    Section 7. That the code be amended by adding a NEW SECTION to read:

    The State Board of Elections shall promulgate rules, pursuant to chapter 1-26, prescribing the format for the ballot and notices provided by this Act. The school business manager shall follow title 12 and chapter 13-7 for election procedures.".
