An Act to require that public school students be provided with information regarding age-of-consent laws and legal and mental health resources.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of South Dakota:

Section 1. That a NEW SECTION be added to chapter 13-33:

Each school district shall provide information on the age-of-consent laws of this state, as set forth in chapter 22-22, and legal and mental health resources available to students. The information must be provided to students each year, beginning in the fifth grade. The information presented must be given in an age-appropriate manner. A child's parent or legal guardian may excuse the child from receiving the information required pursuant to this section, by providing a written notification to the school district.
