    SC 28 Introduced by: Senator Begalka and Representatives Peterson and Tyler

        A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Congratulating the Deuel High School Girls Gymnastics Team for winning the 2013 State Class A Gymnastics Team Tournament.

    WHEREAS, on February 15, 2013, Deuel High School successfully defended their title of the previous two years; and

    WHEREAS, the Deuel High School Gymnastics Team scored 145.90 points to break their own Class A team score record; and

    WHEREAS, the State Class A Gymnastics winning teammates who displayed extraordinary
unity and team spirit are: Sam Wiekamp, Alex Stein, Karina Noem, Meaghan Sievers, Steph Greber, Kaitlyn Plut, and Kelly Wollschlager; and

    WHEREAS, on February 16, 2013, in individual competition, Meaghan Sievers set new Class A Tournament scoring records by placing first in all-around, floor exercise, and uneven bars. She also finished first on the balance beam and on the vault. Also, in individual competition, Sam Wiekamp placed first on vault, second on uneven bars, and second in all-around; Alex Stein finished fifth in all-around; and Kelly Wollschlager finished ninth in all around; and

    WHEREAS, the Deuel High School Girls Gymnastics team succeeded with the help of their managers, Rachel Thiewes, Martha Hartway, and Ashley Stein; and

    WHEREAS, head coach Lynn Gudmundson and assistant coach Joan Niemann directed the team with dedication and determination:

    WHEREAS, Kristina Maddocks, twenty-two, has shown incredible determination in the sport of rodeo and at the Miss Rodeo South Dakota contest and won the personality, appearance, horsemanship, speech, and photogenic categories; and

    WHEREAS, Kristina was the first woman to hold all the state rodeo titles including: South Dakota High School Rodeo Queen, Jr. Miss Rodeo South Dakota, South Dakota 4-H Rodeo Ambassador, and Miss Rodeo South Dakota; and

    WHEREAS, Kristina was successful in earning a degree in Animal Science and Veterinary Sciences from the University of Wyoming while also being involved in the University of

Wyoming rodeo team, the University of Wyoming equestrian team, the University of Wyoming horse judging team, and served as an Ag Ambassador; and

    WHEREAS, Kristina has distinguished herself as a rodeo queen in South Dakota's official state sport, and as such, has consistently fulfilled her honorary role as an ambassador for the state of South Dakota all over the United States:

        A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring Helen Graslie for her years of service for the South Dakota State University chapter of the Alpha Gamma Rho men's agricultural fraternity.

    WHEREAS, Helen Graslie has served as the cook for the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at SDSU for twenty-three years; and

    WHEREAS, Helen Graslie looked after all the members of the fraternity as if they were her own family, helping make the house a second home for the men; and

    WHEREAS, Mrs. Graslie is a long-standing resident of White, South Dakota; and

    WHEREAS, while Helen Graslie retired in the spring 2012, her example as an extraordinary person will leave forever a lasting impression on all the students that she has influenced:

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Eighty-Eighth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature commends and honors Helen Graslie for her contributions to the Alpha Rho fraternity at South Dakota State University.         A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring Paige McPherson for winning a bronze medal in Taekwondo during the 2012 summer Olympic Games.

    WHEREAS, Paige McPherson was raised in Sturgis, South Dakota, where she was introduced to Taekwondo at the age of seven and pursued the sport with consistent hard work,

dedication, and support for her teammates with the ultimate goal of representing the United States at the Olympics; and

    WHEREAS, Paige went on to win the 2012 USAT Female of the Year award, the 2009 Outstanding Female Athlete at the USAT National Championships award, the Chris Canning Award of Excellence in 2008, and was named to the United States National Team four times; and

    WHEREAS, Paige moved to Miami in 2009 to further her success in taekwondo and after training six days a week with an Olympic coach for four years, she finally achieved her goal by becoming one of only two women to represent the United States during the 2012 Olympic Games in Taekwondo:

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Eighty-Eighth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that Paige McPherson be honored for winning the Bronze medal in Taekwondo at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

        A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring Mrs. Renita Dose of Lennox Middle School for receiving School Band and Orchestra magazine's "50 Directors Who Make a Difference" award.

    WHEREAS, School Band and Orchestra magazine selects one instructor from each state to receive this honor. Mrs. Dose was nominated by her peers at Lennox Middle School; and

    WHEREAS, while attending middle school at Lake Preston, Mrs. Dose learned to play the flute which became a lifelong passion; and

    WHEREAS, Mrs. Dose received her degree from Augustana College despite many obstacles; and

    WHEREAS, Mrs. Dose started her teaching career at Howard High School, where she worked for two years before accepting her current position at Lennox Middle School; and

    WHEREAS, Mrs. Dose has been teaching at Lennox Middle School for the last thirty-three years and has recently decided to retire:

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Eighty-Eighth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that Mrs. Renita Dose be honored for receiving School Band and Orchestra magazine's "50 Directors Who Make a Difference" award.

        A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring Ronald Olinger for his long-standing service as a lobbyist at the South Dakota State Capitol.

    WHEREAS, Ronald Olinger, an attorney from Pierre, has served as a lobbyist at the South Dakota State Capitol for nearly four decades; and

    WHEREAS, Ronald Olinger has lobbied extensively on business and agricultural issues; and

    WHEREAS, Ronald Olinger is widely regarded as an expert on the South Dakota Constitution; and

    WHEREAS, Ronald Olinger is a man of principle who has worked on many issues without fee or portfolio simply because he believed it was the right thing to do; and

    WHEREAS, Ronald Olinger is retiring as a lobbyist at the conclusion of the 2013 South Dakota Legislative Session:

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Eighty-Eighth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature recognizes and honors Ronald Olinger for his long-standing service as a lobbyist at the South Dakota State Capitol.
