AMENDMENT 1200A FOR THE INTRODUCED BILL

An Act to require a percentage of signatures on a petition to initiate a constitutional amendment to be obtained from each legislative district.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of South Dakota:

Section 1. That § 2-1-1 be AMENDED:

2-1-1. All measuresA measure proposed by initiative shall be may only be presented by a petition. The petition shall be signed by not less than five percent of the qualified electors of the state.

A constitutional amendment proposed by initiative may only be presented by a petition signed by qualified voters equal in number to at least ten percent of the total votes cast for Governor in the last gubernatorial election. No more thanAt least one-thirty-fifth of the number of signatures required to propose a constitutional amendment by initiative may be counted from any onemust be obtained from each legislative district.
