An Act to require school boards to consult with law enforcement on the design of new school facilities.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of South Dakota:
Section 1. That chapter 13-20 be amended with a NEW SECTION:
If the board of a school district contracts for the construction of a new facility, the board, or a superintendent contracted to oversee the construction on the board's behalf, must consult on the facility's design with a law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction over the school facility. The law enforcement agency may provide recommendations on the design of the facility to improve law enforcement's ability to respond to a threat or act of physical violence at the facility.
