AMENDMENT 97A FOR THE INTRODUCED BILL

An Act to
modify the
composition of provisions
regarding the
State-Tribal Relations Committee
and to declare an emergency.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of South Dakota:
Section
1.
That § 2-6-21
be AMENDED.
2-6-21.
Membership
of State-Tribal Relations Committee.
The
State‑Tribal Relations Committee shall consist of five members
of the House of Representatives to be appointed by the speaker of the
House of Representatives and five members of the Senate to be
appointed by the president pro tempore of the Senate. The members of
the State‑Tribal Relations Committee shall be appointed
biennially for terms expiring on January first of each succeeding
odd‑numbered year and shall serve until their respective
successors are appointed and qualified. No more than three from each
legislative body may be from the same political party
The appointing authority shall appoint members to the committee
proportional to a party's representation in the authority's
legislative body. The minority party in each legislative body shall
have at least one member.
Section 1. That § 2-6-22 be AMENDED.
2-6-22. Committee heads--Staff assistance.
The State‑Tribal Relations
Committee shall
select a chairman and vice-chairman
be co-chaired by one member of the House of Representatives, chosen
by the speaker of the House, and one member of the Senate, chosen by
the president pro tempore of the Senate,
and shall be provided with staff assistance from the Legislative
Research Council.
Section
3.
Whereas, this
Act is necessary for the support of the state government and its
existing public institutions, an emergency is hereby declared to
exist, and this Act shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage and approval.
