Presentation/Update from the Department of Agriculture _ (Handouts 1 and 2) Walt Bones, Department Secretary, briefed the Committee on issues regarding that Department. Secretary Bones commented that the Department of Agriculture's Budget is 4/10ths of one percent of the State's total FY 2011 Budget. He introduced staff members, Brad Berven, Darwin Kurtenbach, and Deputy Secretary, John Farris. The following staff members reported on issues affecting South Dakota and its agriculture industry: Blair Dunn, Legal Counsel, Office of Ag Policy; Dale Blumenhourst, Director, Division of Agriculture Development Programs; Kevin Fridley, Director, Division of Agriculture Services; Joe Lowe, Director, Division of SD Wildland, Fire and Suppression; Ray

Sowards, Director, Division of Resource Conservation and Forestry; and Jerome Hertel, Director of SD State Fair.

Report from State Veterinarian: Dr. Dustin Oedekoven advised that his Office reports to the Department of Agriculture for budgetary purposes. Dr. Odekoven presented a report on the South Dakota Animal Industry Board. (Handout 3)

Larry Stearns, Director, SD Brand Board, presented highlights on issues regarding the Livestock Brand Registration, Investigation, and Inspection Fees.
