    HC 1007 Introduced by: Representatives Vanneman, Deadrick, Juhnke, Lucas, and Noem and Senators Bartling and Garnos

        A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring McKenzie Haley of Winner as the recipient of the 2010 Miss Rodeo South Dakota crown.

    WHEREAS, McKenzie Haley has shown unshakable determination and dedication in her eleven-plus year pursuit of excellence in all areas of competitive rodeo pageantry and many various endeavors in her young and decorated life; and

    WHEREAS, in 2004 McKenzie received the distinguished Junior Miss Rodeo South Dakota title, then earned the title of South Dakota High School Rodeo Queen in 2005-2006, and most recently clinched South Dakota's top rodeo pageant prize, all while competing with great success in numerous, prominent national rodeo queen competitions; and

    WHEREAS, McKenzie has distinguished herself as a rodeo queen in South Dakota's official state sport, and as such, she has consistently fulfilled her honorary role as an ambassador for the state of South Dakota all over the United States; and

    WHEREAS, McKenzie continues to expand her horizons through study at Black Hills State University where she is currently pursing a degree in elementary education and plans to continue on to work for a master's degree:

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Eighty-fifth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that McKenzie Haley be recognized and congratulated on her many achievements in rodeo and most notably her recent achievement of being crowned 2010 Miss Rodeo South Dakota.

        A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring Sioux Falls Washington High School teacher Kira Christensen as the recipient of the 2009 Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award.

    WHEREAS, Kira Christensen has taught in the Sioux Falls School District since 2004; and

    WHEREAS, she has become a master teaching mathematics, especially through the use of technology, to students at the 9-12 grade level; and

    WHEREAS, the National Educator Award is considered the "Oscar of Teaching" and honors K-12 teachers, principals, and specialists across the United States; and

    WHEREAS, she has exceeded the criteria for the National Educator Award, including exceptional educational talent as evidenced by effective instructional practices and student learning results in the classroom and school, and has exemplary educational accomplishments beyond the classroom that provide models of excellence for the profession whose education contributions are largely unheralded yet worthy of the spotlight. She is an early-to-mid-career educator who offers strong long range potential for professional and policy leadership and has an engaging and inspiring presence that motivates and impacts students, colleagues, and the community:

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Eighty-fifth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that Kira Christensen of Sioux Falls Washington High School be honored for receiving the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award in 2009.

        A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Congratulating the Sioux Falls Washington High School Football Team and its coaches and student managers for their 2009 South Dakota State AA Championship season.

    WHEREAS, the team's 2009 season was highlighted by attaining an undefeated 12-0 record, by becoming the Sioux Falls City Football Champions, by winning the Greater Dakota Conference title, and by earning its first State AA Football Championship in the playoff era; and

        A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Commending and honoring South Dakota's one hundred eighty-eight agriculture educators on National Teach Agriculture Day, February 25, 2010.

    WHEREAS,  agriculture is South Dakota's largest industry, having an economic impact of more than twenty-one billion dollars and accounting for forty percent of the state's workforce; and

    WHEREAS, agriculture educators positively impact the lives of students in the state's middle schools, high schools, technical institutes, and at the state's land grant university, and contribute to our global community through their efforts in providing a rigorous education to students; and

    WHEREAS,  agriculture educators are in short supply across the nation, and many students and schools lack the expertise these valued teachers bring to the classroom:

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Eighty-fifth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that South Dakota's agriculture educators be commended and honored for their outstanding efforts in educating the state's students and preserving the state's thriving agriculture industry.

    Rep. Turbiville moved that the House do now adjourn, which motion prevailed and at 3:14 p.m. the House adjourned.
