COMMEMORATIONS


     HC 1013   Introduced by:  Representatives Bradford, DeVries, and Vanneman and Senators Bartling, Garnos, and Two Bulls

         A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Commending the 2006 Todd County High School Cross Country Team for winning the combined state title in the Class A State Cross Country Meet.

     WHEREAS,  the members of the 2006 Todd County High School Boys' and Girls' Cross Country Teams worked and trained hard all season long, in good weather and in bad, and showed marked improvement, both academically and athletically, throughout the cross country season; and

     WHEREAS,  the boys finished as runner-up as a team with a team score that tied the first place team at the Class A State Cross Country Meet and the girls finished third as a team, resulting in a combined state title for Todd County; and

     WHEREAS,  this title was achieved by the teamwork of all the athletes: Steve Antoine, Julie Bernie, LaBradford Bordeaux, Trevor Covey, Max Grimshaw, Emmy Her Many Horses, Kyla Marshall, Morgana Running, Wes Running, Josie Stone, Arna Two Hawk, Mark Whirlwind Soldier, and Kylie Wilson; and

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Eighty-second Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Todd County High School Cross Country Team and its coaching staff be congratulated and commended on their successful 2006 cross country season.

         A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Honoring James Joseph Feinstein for his selection as Junior of the Year at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

     WHEREAS,  the students of Washington High School came together for their 2006 HonorFest to "Celebrate Success"; and

     WHEREAS,  HonorFest celebrates students of all grades and congratulates them on academic, social, and athletic achievements; and

     WHEREAS,  James has participated in many activities, including varsity tennis and playing snare in the WHS Drumline, initiating a drive to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, helping students with disabilities as a Peer Helper, and has achieved several academic

acknowledgments, including consistently being on the Honor Roll and being a member of the National Honor Society; and

     WHEREAS,  James was chosen to receive the 2006 Junior of the Year Award at the state's largest high school for his outstanding achievements:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Eighty-second Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that James Feinstein be congratulated for being an exemplary student and for receiving the 2006 Junior of the Year Award at Washington High School.

         A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Honoring three top seniors from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for being finalists for the Merit Scholarship Awards.

     WHEREAS,  Daniel N. Gustafson, Nathan D. Otten, and Jamianne C. Wilcox were named as finalists in the 2007 competition for Merit Scholarship Awards; and

     WHEREAS,  these three individuals have displayed remarkable knowledge of critical reading, mathematics, and writing skills; and

     WHEREAS,  these students have excelled academically and have been selected out of 1.4 million other entrants to achieve finalist status in the competition:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Eighty-second Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that Daniel N. Gustafson, Nathan D. Otten, and Jamianne C. Wilcox be congratulated as being finalists in the 2007 competition for Merit Scholarship Awards.
