COMMEMORATIONS


     SC 12   Introduced by:  Senator Garnos and Representatives Deadrick and Juhnke

         A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Honoring Mike Kurle as the 2006 Rural Water Manager of the Year.

     WHEREAS,  Mike Kurle has demonstrated skillful negotiating, dedication to hard work, and ability to overcome challenges in his work with the West River/Lyman-Jones Rural Water System; and

     WHEREAS,  Mike Kurle, of Murdo, South Dakota, works for the West River/Lyman-Jones Rural Water System, which provides high quality water for seven counties in western South Dakota. Mike became the manager of this system in 1991; and

     WHEREAS,  Mike Kurle serves as a great political manager as well, dedicating much of his time to lobbying for federal funding, without which, the rural water systems would not be able to function:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Eighty-second Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that Mike Kurle be honored as the 2006 Rural Water Manager of the Year.

         A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Honoring Dave Geisler as the 2007 South Dakota Retailer of the Year.

     WHEREAS,  Dave Geisler is the owner of Pioneer Auto Museum in Murdo, South Dakota. This entrepreneurial business was started by his father and then passed on to him, creating one of South Dakota's leading tourist attractions; and

     WHEREAS,  Dave Geisler is praised for his high standard of hospitality, innovation, dedication to great service, and overall commitment to the South Dakota visitor industry. He and his staff are known for outstanding customer service representing the very best in South Dakota retailing; and

     WHEREAS,  Dave Geisler is an ambassador for Murdo serving community, church, civic, and business organizations. He is also an active promoter of South Dakota and has previously received the Ben Black Elk Award for his promotion of tourism in South Dakota:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Eighty-second Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that Dave Geisler be honored as the 2007 South Dakota Retailer of the Year.

         A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Honoring Ray Erikson as the recipient of the Donald B. Pospishil Memorial Award.

     WHEREAS,  Ray Erikson has demonstrated leadership abilities in the water supply field, provided quality service to consumers, and exhibited professionalism and dedication while operating and maintaining a small water system; and

     WHEREAS,  Ray Erikson of Murdo, South Dakota, has worked for the City of Murdo since 1987, overseeing the city's water operations; and

     WHEREAS,  Ray Erikson has managed such projects as the updating of the Murdo city water distribution system, improvement of the city pool, and currently, incorporating the Murdo Industrial Park into the water system:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Eighty-second Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that Ray Erikson is honored as the recipient of the Donald B. Pospishil Memorial Award.

         A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,  Recognizing Elisa Chan of Sioux Falls for being named a distinguished finalist in the twelfth annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

     WHEREAS,  Prudential Financial finds it important to recognize those who contribute to their communities by serving others; and

     WHEREAS,  Elisa Chan of Sioux Falls helped in the creation of the Immersion Program at Roosevelt High School; and

     WHEREAS,  Elisa, after school, assisted and organized others to assist immigrant, migrant, and refugee students as a tutor; and

     WHEREAS,  Elisa, at various school social activities, facilitated the involvement of minority students:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,  by the Eighty-second Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that Elisa Chan of Sioux Falls be recognized for being named a distinguished finalist in the twelfth annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

     SB 8: FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to  regulate natural gas produced with water unless the gas is used for personal purposes.

     HB 1152: FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to  revise the procedures for due process regarding the central registry for abuse and neglect.

     HB 1153: FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to  revise certain references regarding the reunification of an abused or neglected child with a parent and regarding grounds for termination of parental rights and regarding the operation of the central registry for abuse and neglect.

     HB 1226: FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to  revise provisions related to water project district voter eligibility.

     And signed the same in the presence of the Senate.

     Sen. Maher moved that the Senate do now adjourn, which motion prevailed and at 3:32 p.m. the Senate adjourned.
