Heavenly Father, as we gather on this beautiful winter day, I am mindful of the blessings
which surround our lives. Thank You for Your watchful care over our lives, and for Your
presence as we go through each day. Thank You also for the gift of service. As we open this
session of our state legislature, I ask that You would give these servants wisdom and
understanding. May they discern the times in which we live, and the best way to meet the needs
of those for whom they are responsible. Give them courage to make difficult decisions even
when those decisions are right and necessary. May justice, compassion, and integrity guide them
in the days ahead. I ask that You would watch over and protect them and their families. May
loved ones know a special measure of Your grace as these leaders are away, devoting
themselves to the tasks that lie ahead. I ask these things in Your Name. Amen.
